Aluminum Recycling Project

Since 2001, Best Friends' voluntary recycling program has kept more than 10,000 pounds of aluminum out of the Dickinson, N.D. landfill! This program earns about $5,000 annually for the Best Friends Mentoring Program. Find a recycling bin at:

  • the southwest corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot,
  • in the Runnings Farm & Fleet parking lot
  • in the parking lot next to Westwind Consulting Center at 135 W. Villard St., and
  • on the west end of the West River Community Center's parking lot.

MDU representatives Alan Steig, far left, and Ike Kuntz, far right, pose by the new big in the Wal-Mart parking lot with Wal-Mart manager Kristi Schwartz, left, and Best Friends Program Director Kris Fehr. Kuntz constructed the bin from the design of MDU manager Rick Backes.

We are proud to announce that three new recycling bins have been constructed, thanks to MDU, Fisher Industries, City of Dickinson, Dickinson Parks & Recreation, Wal-Mart, Dickinson Ready Mix, Western Fence, Sherwin-Williams, Graphic Xpress, Westwind Consulting Center, Rick Backes and Dustin Dassinger. A fourth bin is under construction and will soon be erected.  Designed by Backes, these new receptacles replace the older original containers at each site.

Best Friends also accepts used ink jets, laser jets and cell phones for recycling. We mail ink jets and lasers to out-of-state non-profits that pay the

postage, refurbish them and resell them. We send donated cell phones to companies that refurbish them for use by missionaries and non-profits serving Third World countries and  domestic violence programs in the USA. We accept all brands of ink jets, laser jets and cell phones.

Want to help? Drop off your bagged cans in one of our receptacles and  bring your used ink jets, laser jets or cell phones to our office at 135 W. Villard St., Dickinson. We can also pick up these recyclable materials from your business on a regular basis, whether weekly or monthly.  We even provide the containers to make it easy!
